Public Abuses of Power and Venus Retrograde
Verbally confronting child-abuse as an expression of Venus retrograde and Mercury in Scorpio.
The following story is a tiny example of what I consider to be wide-spread grooming of children. I do not think for a moment that the man I interacted with has any real intentions of physically abusing children, however I think his micro-abuse is one of the ways that extreme abuse can be overlooked. Many adults treat children as though they are not entitled to boundaries. Forced to hug uncle Bob, forced to get a haircut, bullied by strangers for entertainment. For example, because of normalized violations of boundaries I didn’t even realize it when I was being abused. These children, like little me, grow up to be traumatized adults. I work with so many adults today who, like me, are struggling with nervous systems that cannot stay regulated while maintaining a heathy boundary (and thankfully we are also learning that we don’t have to stay regulated to do so, it’s ok to get messy and or to follow the wisdom of the body and disassociate). In the story below I’ve made some notes pointing to the astrological correlations. Here goes…
During a public sporting event I confronted a man who was making comments about a child’s underwear with the intention of indicating that the child had “shit his pants” (shit is a Scorpio theme). When looking at my chart, I see that Mercury is transitting my tenth house in Scorpio and that Venus in Scorpio just transitted my Black Moon Lilith and MC (Medium Coeli or Midheaven). The MC is the angle between our 9th and 10th houses, between the House of God and the House of Achievement. The MC is the most public area of the chart. One of the verbs Venus is responsible for is the act of valuing. When she visits the signs she brings our attention to the themes the signs describe. Venus brought my attention (what we PAY attention to, we value) to power and abuse of power in public. It is at a public sporting event that I witnessed a child verbally (Mercury is children, communication) abused. Mercury speaks and brought my voice out in public when I, empowered (Scorpio), confronted the man whose words caused harm.
Over the years I’ve been brave enough to confront abuses of power. Where I’ve struggled most is in what came next. Disapproval from my spouse. Being made fun of by my peers. Reprimanded by my parents. Silence from those I’d thought were allies. Though there are many people who’ve called me brave, the truth is that they don’t know how much of my power I’ve been holding back. They don’t know that I’m holding on so tightly to the opinions of those I fear will judge me after the fact, I eat my words half the time. No wonder to my recent years of digestive issues!
I brought this story to my process work facilitation class today (process work is a psychological processing modality, psyche= Scorpio) and talked (Mercury) with my peer, a skilled student (Mercury), to process the unresolved feelings I had toward myself about confronting the man. I did this in front of 24 people (in public- MC). In this process work I came into contact with an aspect of myself (fire breathing mama dragon- Scorpio) I’d marginalized due to the feedback from the people I’d mentioned above. I’d marginalized my power (Scorpio) to gain a sense of belonging (square to Aquarius- belonging to groups). Since my session was witnessed in class by so many of my peers I was presented with an epic opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate my dragon power. It’s my work now to integrate this aspect of self, though I may return to my supportive peers for further validation as none of us are meant to do this work in isolation. Thank you for reading about my personal Venus in Scorpio experience so far. I hope in some way this share helps you to connect some of the themes of this transit.
Please be in touch to book a Venus reading by Friday. I’d be honored to read for you.
